Committee warned inmate phone revenue will fall sharply under new FCC rule

Shannon Taylor, MCCJC Lieutenant, told the Mini-Cassia Joint Justice Committee that revenues from the inmate phone system will decline sharply under a new Federal Communications Commission regulation. "Currently we receive $0.98 per minute, but due to the new FCC regulation the county is now only going to receive about $0.02 per minute," Taylor reported and said he will add the finalized information to a future agenda when available.
Taylor also reported the current inmate population and bed rentals: a total inmate population of 139 composed of 49 Cassia, 37 Minidoka, seven U.S. Marshals holds and two courtesy holds (51 total rented beds). The expected revenue drop could materially reduce funds previously used to support jail-related services.
