The AWOS triannual maintenance inspection passed and staff confirmed AWOS broadcasts, though commissioners noted the AWOS had occasionally dropped a final digit when announcing altimeter settings and staff checked the system. The state elevator inspection was completed but a required smoke test had not been documented; Haley said the airport must schedule the smoke test with the elevator technician and fire suppression contractor present prior to the inspector’s return before May 17.
Haley also said DEQ will soon conduct its periodic inspection of the airport’s underground fuel storage tanks; the airport’s fuel tank inspection contractor will attend the on-site inspection. Staff prepared for spring work after snow removal operations and conducted Foreign Object Debris sweeping. Commissioners discussed long-term plans to remove underground tanks and replace them with above-ground tanks, noting that the FAA does not pay for underground-tank removal or soil remediation; if contaminated soil is discovered during removal the contaminated material must be transported to an approved disposal facility.
