VCFD pauses radio-tower plan, urges residents to mark Fire Prevention Week

Ventura County Fire Department said it is pausing a proposed radio tower project while it rebuilds communications infrastructure and urged residents to participate in Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 6-12), theme "Smoke Alarms, Make Them Work for You."
A Ventura County Fire Department representative told the MAC staff is not pursuing a planned radio tower at Fire Station 36 at this time while the department rebuilds its communications microwave system and evaluates VHF radio capabilities. The department said it is also assessing staffing needs and potential hires in IT/radio roles following a recent managerial departure.
VCFD reminded residents that Fire Prevention Week runs Oct. 6-12 with the theme "Smoke Alarms, Make Them Work for You," and invited community participation in a smoke-alarm challenge with prizes. The department framed these items as part of broader wildfire-preparedness work and asked residents to continue vegetation management and other safety practices.
The MAC received and filed the VCFD update; no vote or directive was recorded.
