Jay County approves $264,626 Motorola camera purchase for sheriff’s vehicles and body cameras

Jay County commissioners on Nov. 25 approved a Motorola contract for in‑vehicle and body cameras totaling $264,626, a purchase presented and authorized during the Nov. 20 joint ARPA session.
Sheriff Ray Newton told commissioners the department had pursued grants without success and argued the cameras will reduce liability and improve evidence storage: “The liability is an issue, and cameras do not lie,” Newton said. Newton said installations would take roughly three weeks and he preferred scheduling after the holidays. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve the agreement with Motorola and to proceed with installation plans.
