Welsh said the district has moved from fully insured to a self-insured plan in past years, which saved money, but that healthcare costs continue to rise. He said the recommendation before the board preserves a free plan option for employees while adjusting plan design to distribute costs more equitably between taxpayers and employees. "This recommendation...preserve[s] a free plan for our employees, but did strike, I believe, a fair balance," Welsh said. The item will be discussed in greater detail at a future regular board meeting.
