Council pauses Woodland Park Phase 8 plat after neighbors raise drainage worries

Council continued the final-plat item for Woodland Park Phase 8 after neighbors and council members pressed for written engineering confirmation that the new grading will not worsen existing drainage problems in adjacent Woodland Park Phase 4.
Developer representative Jake Hunter (speaker 19) said the proposed grading revisions will route drainage to Beech Grove Drive and away from the problematic back-of-lot area. "We've revised our grading plan to instead of going to the back of those lots to drain directly to the street," Johnson Associates' representative said. City Engineer Steve Lawrence (speaker 20) told council staff has reviewed the plan and is comfortable it will not exacerbate issues, but councilmember 9 requested a written report from engineering (Keith Beatty) and coordination materials from the developer before approving the plat. The council voted 5-0 to continue the item to August 10 to allow those documents to be prepared and reviewed by staff and affected residents.
Council emphasized residents' right to assurance that the new phase will not add to the existing drainage impacts; staff committed to provide a written engineering memo and developer responses ahead of the August meeting.
