Trustees will proceed with March 4 fence viewing in Vernon Township dispute

The Van Buren County Board of Supervisors, meeting March 3 and acting as Vernon Township Trustees, agreed to proceed with a fence viewing scheduled for March 4, 2025, in a dispute between Eugene & Candy Wenke (complaining party) and the Benjamin A. Thorud Irrevocable Trust (responding party). Acting Township Clerk Lisa Plecker presented emails from both parties and trustees reached consensus to go forward with the viewing as scheduled.
Auditor Lisa Plecker reminded trustees that Wenke filed a Notice to Adjoining Landowners on Feb. 10, 2025, and that the 30-day response window for the matter affecting Parcel #000441511200120 will expire next week. Supervisor Waugh agreed to visit the fence on-site and report his observations to the board at the March 10, 2025 meeting. The Wenkes have requested a new partition-fence agreement that would share maintenance 50/50 using the right-hand rule; trustees made no final decision about that agreement during the March 3 meeting.
