Vernonia board hears concerns as kindergarten class exceeds district optimum

During administrator reports on Aug. 14, Superintendent Jim Helmen and principals reviewed kindergarten enrollment and at what point a class would be split. The minutes state the district considers 23–25 students per kindergarten class to be optimum and that the current VES kindergarten had 27 students.
Board Director Amy Cieloha requested that the district provide schedules earlier so the board and families can address scheduling issues prior to the start of school. No formal action was taken at the meeting; the matter remains an administrative scheduling and staffing decision for the district.
