The Montgomery Town Hall Committee voted Sept. 10 to charge $100 for use of the Town Hall kitchen or for substantial use of the basement for fundraising or nonprofit events, and to prohibit rentals that would enable private profit. The committee said the current security deposit will continue to apply to kitchen rentals and noted that Heart Full Kitchen, the current tenant, will pay the fee when using the kitchen outside its food-shelf activities.
Tara Lumbra, a committee member, moved to set the $100 fee; Nicole Woodworth seconded and the motion carried with all members in favor. Committee members emphasized that the kitchen cannot be rented to individuals or groups who would use it to produce goods for resale. Members also noted that no health inspection for the kitchen will be sought until required plumbing work is completed, and that the committee will draft a formal written policy spelling out acceptable uses and rules.
Next steps include preparing the written policy and applying the fee for upcoming events such as community suppers and arts-related food events. The committee recorded the motion as binding policy for interim events until the written policy is completed.
