Veneta reports results from Citywide Cleanup Day; mattress-recycling partner collected 36 units

Public Works Director Kyle Schauer briefed the council on the May 2 Citywide Cleanup Day at the Territorial Sports Complex, reporting organizers collected 15,780 pounds of trash across six dumpsters and processed four dumpsters each of green waste and used wood, listed in the report as 120 cubic yards for each set. Schauer said organizers also collected 420 pounds of recycled cardboard, 380 pounds of e-waste and processed seven roll-off containers of shredding.
Schauer highlighted a new partnership with the Mattress Recycling Council, which sent two trucks and staff and processed 36 mattresses and box springs for recycling. He said overall traffic was lighter than in past years and that the city may need to identify a contingency site next year depending on parking-lot construction progress at the Territorial Sports Complex.
