Veneta Park Board OKs up to $4,000 reimbursement for July 4th event but excludes alcohol costs

Chair Tressa Miller opened discussion of a partially completed grant application from the Fern Ridge Chamber of Commerce for a proposed July 4th celebration and said the Chamber "has wanted to do [the event] for years." The event plan would use Broadway west of Territorial, include a parade staged from Jack Kelly Drive, and rely on the Chamber to finalize remaining line items.
Community Development Director Kevin Urban explained the Park Board’s reimbursement approach: the Board may allocate up to $4,000, but the Chamber would only receive reimbursement for documented, approved expenses. Members flagged a line item for a beer-garden server and expressed concern about using public funds for alcohol-related purchases. The Board agreed to a simple policy: exclude any and all alcohol-related expenditures from reimbursable items without requiring additional legal review. Vice Chair Crystal Donagan moved the approval; Member John Tribolet seconded the motion, which passed unanimously (8-0).
