The Solano County Board of Supervisors unanimously adopted a resolution recognizing Sept. 20, 2024 as National POW/MIA Recognition Day and honoring Lieutenant Colonel Richard C. Brennerman for his military service.
Supervisor remarks introduced the resolution and the board approved it by voice vote, recorded in the meeting as "So ordered by a vote of 5–0." A county speaker recounted the POW/MIA flag history and personal connections to missing service members, saying the flag was not fully recognized until March 9, 1989 and recalling local ceremonies. James Jeff Jewell of American Legion Post 165 in Vacaville invited Vietnam-era veterans to sign a commemorative sign that will be retired at the Travis Air Force Base Museum.
County leaders called the recognition an opportunity to thank those who served. In presenting the item, the board noted the county’s ongoing remembrance activities and invited veterans and families forward for a group photo to mark the resolution.
