Trove and county staff said technology will be a key enabler of greater coordination as more operators work together. They outlined four priority areas: interoperable fare management to collect and allocate funds, more precise automated vehicle location (AVL) and interoperability between operator systems, consistent Wi‑Fi on long regional trips to improve rider experience, and online trip-planning/reservation tools so customers are not limited to calling during office hours.
"If we bring a bunch of systems together, they all gotta be able to talk to each other," Trove said, describing the interoperability challenge. Staff said they have some AVL and dispatch systems today but that the study examined what additional technology investments might cost and what the resulting local ask could be when implementation occurs. Trove emphasized those local costs could range widely depending on the chosen vendor and features.
