The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners voted unanimously Nov. 19 to approve a budget amendment increasing the SkyWest Airlines contract appropriation by $543,587.42.
Accounting specialist Rebecca Romero told commissioners the amendment would reduce general fund reserves and bring the line item up to the contract’s not-to-exceed cap of $793,000; the county had originally budgeted $250,000 for the contract. The board opened a public hearing on the request, heard no public comments and closed the hearing before taking the vote. “So this budget amendment will affect the general fund reserves,” Romero said in presenting the request.
Commissioner Jones moved approval and Commissioner Slaughter seconded; the motion passed unanimously. Chair noted the county will hope actual costs come in under the cap. The board did not attach additional conditions to the appropriation; Romero said the change is intended only to ensure sufficient appropriation for the contract’s maximum amount.
