Select Board approves $9,000 tree-removal contract to improve road safety

The Mount Holly Select Board voted unanimously Feb. 10 to hire McCullough Bros for tree removal work intended to improve road safety.
Jeff Chase reported he had applied for a grant to fund tree and ledge removal and presented two bids: GM Tree Tech quoted $4,800 to remove one tree on Branch Brook Road, while McCullough Bros quoted $9,000 for two days of work with a four-person crew and unlimited tree removal. The board approved contracting McCullough Bros, with reimbursements from the Museum and Carlton Cemetery and use of the ash-tree budget and Highway funds to cover the remainder. "I moved to contract McCollough Bros using the ash tree budget, Museum and cemetery reimbursements, and using the Highway budget for the remaining costs," said Jeff Chase during the discussion.
Select Board members discussed funding sources before voting. Dennis Devereux asked whether the contract could include a tree at Carlton Cemetery to be paid from the cemetery fund; board members confirmed that the cemetery and Museum would reimburse the town for their portions. Town Treasurer Elizabeth Karle noted the tree fund balance would not cover the full $9,000, and that Highway staff input (Clinton Woolley) would be needed to finalize exact budget transfers. The motion passed unanimously.
