Public Safety Committee recommends Buncombe–Madison regional hazard mitigation plan to full council

Assistant Chief Jeremy Knighton presented the Buncombe–Madison Regional Hazard Mitigation Plan recap and told the committee the plan focuses on action items to reduce disaster losses, protect infrastructure, and maintain grant eligibility.
"The requested action here is to move this to full council with a recommendation for adopting this plan," Knighton said. Council Member Antoinette Mosley moved to recommend the plan to full council; the motion was seconded and the committee approved it unanimously on roll call.
Knighton said the plan aligns the city with county and neighboring jurisdictions and contains 28 action items specific to Asheville. He and staff noted that adoption preserves eligibility for FEMA hazard-mitigation assistance and supports long-term resilience planning.
