Kane County adopted Ordinance O 2026-6 on Feb. 24, 2026, revising business license regulations to tighten requirements for alcohol permitting and to clarify the county’s late‑penalty language.
Attorney Jeff Stott presented the ordinance to the commission, explaining that under the amendment an applicant seeking an alcohol permit must also obtain a county business license, "provide a background check, and meet all the state requirements." Stott said the ordinance also corrected awkward wording on the late‑penalty provision so the county’s enforcement of late fees is clearer.
The commission voted unanimously to adopt the ordinance. The change requires county licensing staff to update application processes and to verify background checks and state compliance for applicants seeking to sell alcohol commercially.
The ordinance affects businesses that sell alcohol and county licensing procedures; it does not replace any state licensing requirement but adds a county prerequisite and administrative checks before issuance of county business licenses tied to alcohol permits.
