United/SkyWest E175 service to Aspen set to begin Dec. 3, officials say

"The 1st of these aircraft is now scheduled to be introduced into the Aspen Airport starting on December 3," said Bill, the city’s air service consultant, who explained the E175s are configured similarly in capacity to the CRJ‑700s they replace but provide benefits such as overhead bin space and modern avionics. He said the E175’s wingspan fits within Aspen’s current restriction and the aircraft has been introduced at comparable regional airports with improved reliability.
Officials said the E175 fleet replacement is expected to occur over about three years and that the new planes should reduce gate‑check requirements and improve the passenger experience without materially changing seat counts on most flights. Council members asked how that fleet shift relates to runway design choices; staff reiterated that FAA design decisions are driven by long‑range safety criteria rather than immediate aircraft types.
