County staff urges quick coordination for two-year outdoor recreation/search-and-rescue grant

Staff told the commission that a substantial outdoor recreation grant with a pre-review date of Aug. 15 and a submission deadline of Aug. 28 is available and could provide two years of funding for search-and-rescue, EMS and related services for smaller counties.
The staff member briefing the commission said the application requires detailed numbers and narrative descriptions that several agencies must provide. "This is a huge one... this will be one that's gonna be a grant for 2 years," the staff member said, adding the county must compile input from the sheriff's search-and-rescue team, the fire district and others. She said the grant includes paragraph-style narrative sections and is not only numerical, so it will require coordinated writing and data collection.
Commissioners agreed a cross-agency meeting would be beneficial and asked staff to resend the grant materials and to set a meeting (staff proposed Aug. 11 for a working review). The staff member identified Kathy Knights as a contact who had responded and asked that the clerk, sheriff and other department leads provide the needed data so the county does not miss the pre-review window.
Next steps: staff will resend the application, set meeting times for data collection and follow up to ensure materials are submitted for the Aug. 15 pre-review and the Aug. 28 application deadline.
