Officials say ambulance license issued; transporting unit delivery expected in January

A fire‑department official told the oversight board July 29 that the state licensing office reviewed the department's ambulance application favorably and provided the ambulance license stickers, asking only when the service wanted to begin. "They left issuing us our, our ambulance license," the official said, reporting the state reviewer told them they had done a good job on the application.
Officials said a transporting ambulance is scheduled for delivery in January, but the department must recruit and train staff before placing the unit into transporting service. The official described a phased approach: operate initial BLS (basic life support) services while staffing and training proceed, then start the clock toward ALS (advanced life support) capability once BLS service has been in operation and staffing meets state requirements. Members said recruitment and sequencing of academy dates are the main constraints to an earlier transporting start.
The oversight board asked for a written operations and finance report from the chief (who was on a call), and agreed to follow up if members felt an interim meeting was necessary prior to the October meeting.
