Oak Ridge Fire Chief Scott told the Westfir City Council on May 4 that a newly purchased medic unit has been completed and will ship to Springfield for final review and decaling, with an expected in-service timeline of roughly 30 days once licensing is complete.
Scott summarized April operations: 99 calls for service, response targets were met for Westfir, a transport rate of 74% with 42 hospital transports, 82 patient contacts, and significant volunteer training (17.5 hours of training and 583 volunteer hours). He also reported a major repair that cost about $10,000 for a medic unit sent to Springfield and said a ladder recently failed testing and should be replaced (the shipping cost currently exceeds ladder price). He emphasized the department’s greatest need is volunteer recruitment and asked the council to publicize volunteer opportunities.
Councilors asked operational questions about ladder testing, pump tests and mutual aid. The chief confirmed mutual aid helped handle a recent structure fire and said adding volunteers would improve coverage.
