During public comment on the Verizon tower (CUP26-02), resident James Singleton raised a concern about the city’s tracking of expired permits. "We're going on 8 years since this expired. The staff should have been a little bit better on this," Singleton said, urging better oversight of permit expirations.
Staff and commissioners acknowledged the concern. Planning staff said the expired CUP was discovered when the applicant submitted materials for maintenance and minor modifications and that staff subsequently requested the current application. Commissioners discussed the practical difficulties of requiring retroactive stealth screening for an existing tower but indicated the city will continue to apply screening and landscaping requirements to new permits and site changes when feasible.
