Council approves law-enforcement IGA with Oak Ridge

The Westfir City Council on May 4 approved a two-year law-enforcement intergovernmental agreement (IGA) with the city of Oak Ridge for fiscal years 2026 and 2027.
Police Chief Kevin Martin told the council the only substantive change was a 3% increase that raised the FY2026 amount “from 64,890 to 66,837,” and a small adjustment to extraordinary services from $75 to $76. After brief staff discussion about how Westfir will work with Oak Ridge under the IGA, a councilor moved to approve the agreement and another councilor seconded the motion. Mayor Watson and the present councilors voted aye and the motion carried (Councilor Cheatham was absent).
Councilors asked staff to follow up with additional details about how the city can support programs under the IGAs and to bring clarifications to a future meeting. The council did not amend the agreement; staff indicated they will return with follow-up information.
