City OKs library 'talk box' privacy pod and travel request funding

The council voted to approve purchase of a Memova talk‑box privacy pod for the second floor of the Virginia public library at a cost of $19,390, funded by a mix of $5,000 from Accenture, CDBG grant funds and contributions from library friends. Library director Jody Grimenowski told the council the booth will provide ADA‑compliant privacy for telehealth calls and remote legal hearings and will house an updated computer tied to the library’s legal kiosk.
"We have had requests for telehealth… we do not have a space in the building that will allow that," the library director said, describing the pod’s glass door, camera and ADA compliance. Staff confirmed all grant paperwork is allocated and that friends of the library will fund a dedicated Ethernet line. Councilors also discussed a separate small travel request (the Minnesota Library Association conference) and staff said the library will use crossover funds from Arrowhead Library System rather than general city funds.
Councilors approved the purchase and the related consent items. Staff said paperwork remains but funds are allocated and the project will proceed once administrative steps are complete.
