Sweetwater County approves $1,500 amendment to move election scanner purchase into capital

Sweetwater County commissioners on Nov. 5 approved a small budget amendment to reclassify $1,500 from elections operating to elections capital to reflect newly purchased absentee-ballot barcode scanners.
County Clerk Christina Marshall told the board the absentee-ballot scanners had been upgraded and “it's now 2D instead of 1D,” making the purchase functionally a longer-term capital item rather than an operating expense. Marshall said the office had not planned for capital spending earlier in the year but purchased the upgraded scanners to improve security. The board conducted a public hearing, received no public comment and voted to adopt Resolution 24-11-1-CL-01 approving the amendment. The motion passed unanimously.
