Sweetwater County Library reports rising program attendance and expanded digital services

The Sweetwater County Library System reported increased program activity and digital use during the board's Sept. 17 meeting.
Library Director Lindsay Travis said the system held 979 programs in fiscal year 2024, a 23.8% increase over the prior year, and cited nearly 40,000 program attendees countywide. "Our program attendance was also up 16.2% with nearly 40,000 people attending library programs across the county," Travis said. She also reported a 12.8% rise in digital checkouts even as physical item circulation dipped slightly. The White Mountain Library accounted for the most meeting-room uses (992), and the library foundation contributed $20,000 toward summer reading programs.
Travis and Board Chair Megan Jensen emphasized the library's role providing free internet and computers for residents who lack home access. Commissioners praised the outreach but noted capital pressures: the White Mountain HVAC is failing and meeting-room renovations are planned. The library said it will continue working with county staff on grant opportunities and budgeting to address those facility needs.
