County legal staff recommended and the commission approved participation in national opioid settlements and related actions to preserve county interests. The county attorney reported that the legal team believes entering the Purdue direct settlement and participating in the nationwide settlement authorization is "in the best interest of Emery County," and the commission approved the recommended participations.
Separately, county counsel presented a resolution authorizing the filing of cross-appeals in assessment disputes involving centrally assessed properties, including a matter involving Urban Oil & Gas Group LLC, to preserve the county's litigation rights under Utah law; the commission approved the resolution.
The actions permit county attorneys to complete the administrative steps needed to obtain settlement proceeds and to defend the county's position in assessment litigation as cases progress.
