Emery County commits $500,000 to Fair and City livestock event center rebuild

The Emery County Commission voted to commit $500,000 in county travel-board surplus funds to Farrah City's effort to rebuild its livestock event center, a key regional facility damaged by fire last year.
County travel-board staff and city representatives said the project has a total estimated cost of about $6 million, including a $2.5 million CIB grant and a $500,000 CIB loan pending. The county's letter of financial commitment will accompany a cooperative agreement to ensure the County's lodging tax (TRT) and grant rules are honored in the allocation of the funds, county staff said. The funding was suggested by the travel board and was included in a special-project surplus set aside for county tourism infrastructure.
Commissioners said the allocation is intended to support an asset that will host events year-round and help regional tourism and economic activity. The motion to commit the county funds passed unanimously at the meeting; commissioners asked for a cooperative agreement outlining permitted uses and reporting requirements before disbursing the money.
