County accepts federal bulletproof vest grant to replace expired vests

Grants manager Christina Marshall told the board the county was awarded $13,666.75 from the Patrick Leahy Bulletproof Vest Partnership, a U.S. Department of Justice program that provides funds for law‑enforcement ballistic vests.
"So the project requires a 50% cash match...The total project budget is $27,333.50. We anticipate purchasing 20 bulletproof vests with the funding," Marshall said. She also noted the sheriff's office already has a mandatory wear policy for uniformed patrol officers, and the county will submit reimbursement requests under the grant rules; commissioners accepted the award unanimously.
