Sweetwater County Assessor Dave Divas updated the Board of County Commissioners Oct. 15 on outreach and application returns for the new long‑term homeowners exemption. The program—intended for residents 65 and older who meet residency and tax‑payment history requirements—requires verification of age and residence.
"We have had we sent out around 500 requests for applications...and to date, we've had 763 applications returned to us," Divas said, describing in‑person outreach at senior centers in Green River and plans for additional visits in Rock Springs and Farson. He cited Department of Revenue figures showing 512 approved applications in Sweetwater County with roughly $368,000 distributed in refunds and an average refund of about $718. Divas emphasized the county is conducting outreach so applicants do not need to travel long distances to file and noted the exemption reduces taxable value and is not backfilled by the state.
