Board adopts revised K–12 substance‑abuse prevention plan developed with ODE and WestEd support
Summary
After remediating an out-of-compliance finding, the district adopted a revised K–12 substance‑abuse prevention plan that adds updated curriculum, referral and emergency-action processes, staff training, digital outreach and quarterly reporting to the board.
District staff told the board the substance-abuse prevention plan was revised with support from the Oregon Department of Education and a consultant firm, WestEd, after the district reported the plan was previously out of compliance. “I indicated on the Division 22 report that we were out of compliance on that plan,” the Superintendent said, describing the rewrite process and monthly team work with ODE and WestEd.
The plan includes adoption of updated K–12 health curriculum, a referral process and emergency-action steps for incidents, staff professional development, required opioid prevention lessons, and new digital signage (TVs) at counseling centers to display prevention resources and QR codes for help. Administrators told the board they will provide quarterly statistical trend reports (without student names) and bring policy updates as needed; the board moved and approved adoption of the plan.
