Commission joins Kroger opioid settlement; county to receive share under state MOU

Deputy civil attorney John Daley briefed the commissioners on the county’s ratification of opting into the national Kroger opioid settlement. Daley said the settlement totals approximately $1.2 billion nationally and that, under an MOU with the state, Sweetwater County is eligible to receive a defined percentage of the local allocation — he estimated Sweetwater County’s local-share percentage at about 7.64% of the local portion. Daley said payment schedules vary by settlement and this Kroger settlement has an approximate 11-year payment period.
The board unanimously ratified the county’s opt-in, which aligns it with prior decisions to participate in other distributor and manufacturer settlements. Daley noted that funds will be distributed to local governments and the county will await its allocation and payment schedule.
