District updates athletic handbook, coaching hires and schedule planning

District staff outlined changes to the athletic handbook intended to clarify expectations for coaches, students and parents and to make disciplinary measures more equitable. The High School Presenter said the handbook was consolidated and updated to “dial things in” and to provide live updates during the year.
Board members pressed on disciplinary consequences for student-athletes; a staff speaker recommended moving away from a fixed 90-day suspension and instead applying a percentage-of-season measure so students have a pathway back to participation. “That's 0.5 the school year… to look at a percentage of a season missed instead of 0.5 a school year missed, would be more equitable,” the High School Presenter said. The board also heard that the district has hired new cross-country coaches (Zach Spink, Louie, Nikki Bernstein) and athletic secretary Whitney Napp and that online athletic registration is now live.
