Sweetwater County commissioners authorized staff to submit a Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality (CMAQ) FY2025 grant application to WYDOT to fund dust suppression work on county roads. Grants manager Christina Marshall said the Public Works Department proposes applying magnesium chloride to approximately 87 miles of roads at an estimated cost of about $5,000 per mile. The grant request is $348,248 with a required 20% local cash match ($87,062), for a total project budget of $435,310; the match is included in the FY25 grant projects budget.
Marshall noted federal CMAQ rules tie grants to air-quality improvement objectives and that the application package includes required WYDOT resolution, lobbying certification and Title VI nondiscrimination assurances. Commissioners approved the resolution and related documents and authorized the chair to sign.
