County accepts $50,000 TANF award and ratifies $468,807 prevention grant to local nonprofit

County grants manager Christina Marshall briefed commissioners on multiple grant matters during the Aug. 6 meeting. Sweetwater County received a $50,000 TANF Community Partnership Initiative award from the Wyoming Department of Family Services; Marshall said the funding will be passed through to CLIMB Wyoming to assist low-income mothers in job training and support services and that the program expects about 30 new enrollments this federal fiscal year.
Marshall also reported that Sweetwater County was awarded a two-year Community Prevention Grant from the Wyoming Department of Health Public Health Division totaling $468,807; the county is passing the contract through to Southwest Counseling to hire two community prevention specialists. The grant requires extensive monthly reporting and performance tracking and carries no cash match. Commissioners unanimously ratified the contracts and authorized the chair to sign the necessary documents.
