"We reduced that down to $17 a square foot for that lease," Cole said, describing the negotiated change and the added early-termination clause. Commissioner Dennis had earlier asked that item Q be pulled for public discussion; resident Faith Martin had asked for item Q to be removed from consent because of concern that two years of rent would be covered by property taxes while only one year would be covered by ARPA funds.
Commissioners debated the long-term cost trade-offs between continuing to lease, purchasing an existing building or constructing a new administration facility; several commissioners said delay had increased projected construction costs since earlier planning. The lease amendment passed by roll-call vote.
