Douglass Township adopts tentative 2025 budget after trimming $195,401 deficit

The Douglass Township Board of Supervisors voted Nov. 18 to adopt a tentative 2025 budget that trims an initial projected deficit and maintains current tax rates. Treasurer Cynthia O'Donnell told the board she and department heads reduced a starting deficit of about $400,000 to $195,401.52 without eliminating essential services.
"We were able to reduce the deficit to $195,401.52," Treasurer Cynthia O'Donnell said while presenting the figures. She reported the General Fund beginning balance for 2025 will be $2,552,754.00 and the projected year-end General Fund balance $2,357,382.00. The tentative budget includes provisions for three potential hires: a police officer, a roadcrew/parks person and an assistant manager.
The board voted unanimously to adopt the 2025 Tentative Budget for advertisement and public inspection, with the budget available Nov. 19 through Dec. 16, 2024. The adoption authorizes required public notice; final adoption will follow any public comment and subsequent board action.
The decision leaves intact the township's current tax rate for 2025 and sets the schedule for hearings and public review. The board did not make any final hiring decisions at the meeting; personnel additions remain subject to later budgetary approvals and hiring processes.
