The Select Board discussed a written response from the county sheriff about traffic enforcement and considered inviting Major Cornelio and deputies to a future meeting to discuss truck traffic, speed enforcement and possible grant-funded contracting.
A board member proposed inviting sheriff representatives and said he would arrange a session: "I will invite the sheriff, the deputy sheriff and Major Corniglio over to talk with us," the vice chair said. Board members debated enforcement options: Jerry noted that residents previously voted against expanding contracted sheriff coverage and cautioned there are limits to what additional enforcement would accomplish absent resident backing. Another member suggested re-opening the question to voters with clearer information and facts so the community can decide whether to pursue contracted or expanded enforcement measures.
The board agreed to pursue a meeting that can include the sheriff's office and staff to explore feasible next steps, including grant opportunities and incremental measures such as targeted commercial-vehicle checks and speed enforcement, while acknowledging past town-meeting decisions.
