Okeechobee council closes special meeting; city attorney to negotiate employment agreement

The special meeting of the Okeechobee City Council on May 11, 2026 convened at 9:00 A.M., recessed from 10:12 A.M. to 10:23 A.M., and adjourned at 11:32 A.M. City Clerk Lane Gamiotea recorded the roll call and collected Candidate Appraisal Forms after the interviews were completed.
Mayor R. Watford Jr. instructed City Attorney Fumero to begin negotiations with the top-ranked applicant, Denise Whitehead, and to prepare a proposed employment agreement for the council's review. The minutes note that if negotiations with Whitehead are unsuccessful the council will offer the position to Mr. Douglas Baber. The proposed agreement will be returned to the council for formal consideration.
