Eureka City Council voted to adopt the 2024 Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) code, attach a state-approved high-risk map to the ordinance appendix, and sign the state cooperative (CWS) agreement. Councilors first approved the state map and then adopted the ordinance package in a roll-call vote.
Staff explained the three-part requirement for compliance with recent state legislation: adoption of the 2024 WUI code, attaching a map of high-risk areas to the ordinance appendix, and executing the CWS cooperative agreement. As staff summarized, “So, basically, there’s 3 things: the 1st 1, you need to adopt the 20 24 WUI code. The 2nd 1 is you adopt a map of your high risk areas with that code in the appendix. And the 3rd 1 is you agree to sign the CWS agreement,” (Staff member). Councilor motions to approve the map and then the ordinance/package were seconded and passed unanimously by roll call.
