Commissioners approve compensation update for UW Extension employee and endorse community vitality, AmeriCorps roles

As an amendment to the agenda, the board reviewed and approved an annual compensation agreement for Tracy Meets, noting a clerical change to a whereas clause so the agreement aligns with the MOU effective date of July 1, 2024.
Chair asked that the final whereas clause be altered to read 07/01/2024 so it coincides with the newly approved MOU; Commissioner Toman moved to approve the compensation agreement with that change and Commissioner Richards seconded. The motion passed unanimously.
Commissioners also discussed staffing priorities at the Extension following a recent workshop. Several commissioners said they favored creating a community vitality and health position and expressed support for including an AmeriCorps coordinator if that option became available. "I lean towards the community vitality and health position, and it's a win win with the AmeriCorps position," one commissioner said. The board moved to express support for those positions and authorized staff to communicate the preference to UW Extension.
County staff will update the compensation agreement language and notify UW Extension of the board's staffing preferences so the parties can finalize hiring and program support.
