Commissioners approve one-year MOU with UW Extension, citing preference for shorter trial term

The Sweetwater County Board of County Commissioners approved a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the University of Wyoming Extension, altering the default multi-year term to a one-year agreement covering July 1, 2024, through June 30, 2025.
"I would really think that we would be better off, going with that contract, but using just a 1 year contract for our 1st attempt," Commissioner Slaughter said, explaining that the county had negotiated redline changes with counsel but that UW Extension preferred to use a uniform contract across many jurisdictions. Slaughter said the one-year term would let the county start the relationship while preserving an annual review and the option to expand to a longer term later.
Commissioners said the earlier workshop with UW Extension had been productive and expressed support for moving forward with the revised effective dates. The board approved the motion to adopt the MOU with the adjusted term; the motion was moved by Commissioner Slaughter and seconded by Commissioner Toman and carried unanimously.
The approval also included an instruction to coordinate related compensation and staffing agreements so dates and provisions align with the MOU.
