The City Council approved Resolution No. 25-159 to buy three 2026 Dodge Durango pursuit-rated police vehicles for a total of $122,961, to be paid from Capital GL 01-31-32-59-950. Police Chief Leavitt said the department’s fleet included vehicles that had exceeded 100,000 miles and that the South Dakota state bid provided new vehicles at a lower cost than budgeted used options.
Councilman Turman questioned why the department was moving away from used vehicles; Chief Leavitt said the state bid and pricing made new vehicles the more economical choice. The purchase was approved by unanimous roll call vote.
