The committee advanced House Bill 16,75 to finance after sponsor testimony that the bill sets a salary schedule for school nurses who hold a valid license, a bachelor's degree and national certification from the National Board of Certification of School Nurses.
Sponsor said the fiscal note shows about 62 nurses statewide would be affected and approximately 30 currently earn less than the proposed starting teacher-equivalent salary; the measure would raise pay for those individuals without reducing salaries of nurses already above that level (Representative Davis (Speaker 19)). Committee members expressed support and the clerk reported 13 ayes and 0 nays.
