TBR and partners say coaching pilot lifted persistence and placement rates at community colleges

"Seventy percent of the students that enter one of our colleges are academically underprepared," Tydings said. He reported that programs using coaches had persistence rates around 80% for participating students, gateway course success rates near 50%, an 85% job‑placement rate for technical and community college graduates this year, and licensure pass rates at roughly 95%.
Tydings and partners argued these outcomes justify recurring investment to scale coaching, and he asked the committee to consider the proposal in upcoming budget deliberations. Members asked for follow-up on precisely which interventions drove gains and how programs would be staffed and sustained at scale.
