Speech‑language pathologists urge district to restore Medi‑Cal reinvestment and CEU funding
Summary
Multiple speech‑language pathologists told the board that they are being required to use personal leave and personal funds for state‑required conferences and CEUs needed to maintain licensure and bill Medi‑Cal; speakers asked the district to account for and reinvest Medi‑Cal revenue and restore conference/CEU funding.

Francisco López, speaking on behalf of speech‑language pathologists, said the profession generates significant Medi‑Cal revenue for the district and asked the board for a transparent accounting of how those funds are used. "¿Cómo que el distrito puede declarar que hay falta de recursos para servicios de lengua y habla cuando nuestra profesión genera bastantes fondos?" López asked, noting reported figures in district documents.
Several colleagues described being required to use personal days and out‑of‑pocket funds to attend required in‑person trainings and CEU courses, which they said jeopardizes licensure and the district’s ability to bill Medi‑Cal. SLPs asked that funds generated by their billing cover CEU costs, conference travel and development, and that the district restore the roughly $75,000 identified for CEU support so clinicians need not use personal leave.
