Commissioners report on wildfire responses, county fair and energy policy work

A commissioner reported to the board on recent wildfire activity and county response coordination, thanking local fire districts and the Oregon State Fire Marshal for their work on the Loveless and Fisher fires. The commissioner said coordinated decisions to divert resources helped prevent more catastrophic outcomes and urged residents to exercise fire safety during the summer. "I encourage everybody to keep fire safety in mind," the commissioner told the meeting.

The same commissioner reminded the public that the Klamath County Fair begins Thursday and encouraged attendance. He said he is focusing more on energy issues and plans to attend a NACO energy summit later in the summer to bring county priorities to statewide and national conversations on grid and generation issues. He also noted work through the Oregon Association of Counties on veterans policy and support for occupational-licensing streamlining to help veterans transition to the state.

Another commissioner summarized takeaways from the National Association of Counties conference, highlighting a push for reform of the Endangered Species Act and county attention to the siting and infrastructure needs of data centers. The presenters said the issues will inform county coordination with economic development partners.
