The City of North Platte Planning Commission voted July 20 to recommend annexing Lot 1 of the Deep Waters Retreat administrative subdivision (approximately 2.326 acres) into the city limits. Planning staff said the proposal complies with Chapter 11 annexation requirements in the city's comprehensive plan and recommended adoption to provide service clarity and growth-management benefits.
"The proposed annexation is in accordance with chapter 11 annexation of the City Of North Platte's comprehensive plan and amendments," Judy, planning staff, told the commission. Staff cited equity for taxpayers, clearer maintenance and emergency-response areas, and expanded eligibility for economic development funding as reasons to recommend annexation. The commission closed the public hearing and moved to recommend annexation to City Council.
Commissioners discussed the physical boundary (a small "finger" jutting into the east) and noted adjacent properties such as the Cowboy Church were not part of this petition. The recommendation will be forwarded to City Council for final action.
