Mesabi East hires industrial tech and Ojibwe language teachers, approves fall coaches

The Mesabi East School District board approved several personnel actions on Aug. 5, 2024. Jacob Bjork was approved as a 1.0 FTE Industrial Technology teacher (BA, Step 2) for the 2024–2025 school year contingent on obtaining PELSB licensure. Keiza Besemann was approved as a .17 FTE Ojibwe Language teacher for 2024–2025 (BA, Step 2).
The board also approved the 2024–2025 fall coaching recommendations, naming head and assistant coaches across football, volleyball, cross country, swimming, soccer and cheer; Director Kathy Undeland recorded an abstention on the coaching vote. The board accepted the resignation of Jean Stark (cafeteria worker effective July 23, 2024) and approved salary lane changes for Lindsey Sova (BA+24 to MA), Neal Thornbloom (BA to BA+24) and Paul Carland (BA to BA+24).
Next steps: hires are contingent where noted (PELBS licensure for the Industrial Tech hire); human resources will finalize contracts and payroll changes.
