DPW outlines $8M in FY26 barracks work, flags $4.7M in storm damage that may double

Chris Carlson, deputy director for the Department of Public Works, gave an itemized snapshot of facility work and storm damage at Fort Knox. "Total current investment in FY26 is about $8,000,000 across 46 buildings," Carlson said.
Carlson said the post is tracking roughly $4,700,000 in storm-related damage tied to recent heavy rainfall and flash flooding and cautioned that figure could increase once larger project bids are received. He noted the impact spans 120 locations, 78 buildings and 42 roads and said DPW is seeking storm-damage funding from higher headquarters while preparing to self-fund if necessary, which could shift FY26 work into FY27.
